When Levi isn't busy coding for his day job, he's writing fiction novels, and learning Japanese.
An early supporter and true brand loyalist, Even G1 are his everyday glasses—just as they were designed to be. That's right, they're the only glasses he wears. He utilizes features like QuickNote, Teleprompt, and Even AI to optimize his time and juggle his many pursuits.
See Even G1 through Levi's eyes: a 2-week review.
What initially drew you to Even Realities and the concept of digital glasses?
I first found out about Even Realities when I was scrolling through Reddit. I came across a post in a smart glasses community about a question regarding Even G1.
I've been interested in the concept of smart glasses since Google Glass came out over a decade ago, and I've always kept my eye out for the leading, bleeding edge technology in wearables. I was skeptical at first, since it appeared to be a startup.
I usually take a back seat to see how startups perform over time, but Even G1 really caught my eye to be something more than just an experimental piece of tech. It really looked like something that could deliver what it set out to do, and that alone eventually pushed me to pre-order a pair for myself.
What was your first impression when you unboxed the Even G1?
I'd seen all there was to see about unboxings and reviews online while I waited for my glasses to arrive. The unboxing experience felt premium, and infinitely more thoughtful than what most companies settle for nowadays for products that cost more than twice as much.
How would you describe the design and comfort? Do you find it stylish and ergonomic for daily use?
The design easily surpassses any other smart glasses on the market today. I wear my Even G1 every day as my only pair of glasses, and no one ever notices that I'm wearing smart glasses with a heads up display and so many capabilities. I will say, the lenses are a bit small for my personal preference, but they still work perfectly as normal glasses, and I have no problem wearing them all day for more than 12 hours at a time.
How has Even G1 impacted your work productivity? Are there specific tasks or workflows where you've found it particularly helpful?
The Even G1 QuickNote has been, and continues to be, a huge help in my daily life for a number of reasons. When it comes to work, it's easy to forget the times and purposes of all of my meetings I have back-to-back. A really convenient solution I've found is to put my meetings into a note so it's displayed any time I look up at the HUD. I don't have to dig through emails or calendars to find the right information, so it's a huge time saver on a tight schedule.
How have you used Even G1 to enhance your language learning experience?
In the past month or so, learning Japanese has been the main use case of QuickNote for me. What I'll do is listen to 30 minute conversational Japanese lessons every day, but sometimes (maybe more often than I'd like to admit) I have trouble remembering certain words.
Now, when I have a tricky word that I want to remember, what I do is write it down in QuickNote so that I can always see them whenever I look up to check the time, or if I want to study my vocab hands-free. It has been the best tool I never knew I needed, and it also goes to show the versatility of these glasses.
I didn't expect to utilize my glasses for language learning when I bought them, but it's been a huge convenience. It makes me wonder about the other useful ways I can come up with in the future.
In what ways has Even G1 aided your creative writing process?
I've been writing a fiction novel in my free time over the past few years. It's a story I really enjoy, and so I put a lot of time and thought into how I can really bring it to life. At the time of writing this, it was just last night that I came up with a huge idea to redo the ending and make it a lot more engaging and less cliche. I was busy with my nighttime routine, so I didn't have the time to sit down and really write out what I was thinking. So, what I did was I recorded my thoughts out into the glasses. It was really great to have immediately available so I didn't forget the specifics of my idea. It's absolutely been a huge help when brainstorming or thinking of ways I can evolve my story to be the best it can be.
After three months of daily use, how has your experience with Even G1 evolved?
I feel like three months of daily driving the Even G1 have really allowed me to see all of its ins and outs, and to take full advantage of the features in ways I may not have thought of back when I first bought them. I think many of the things I've brought up in the previous questions are all great examples of that. I think it's clear that QuickNote is my favorite feature, but there's much to love about the rest of the glasses too.
The AI is extremely helpful for when I have random thoughts or questions while driving or when my hands aren't free. The teleprompter has also been really nice when I am presenting in a meeting or recording a video, since it dynamically follows my voice with the AI autoscroll. I personally like reading off of bullet points and free speaking for most of my presentations, and the AI autoscroll is able to detect when I go off script, if I pick back up, or even if I completely skip over a section. It seriously works like magic.
What features or improvements would you like to see in future iterations of Even G1?
I was going to say a customizable heads up display, but as of a couple days ago, it appears that there's already an update out to replace the QuickNote section with stocks and news. A notifications list would be nice to see as an option for this as well.
On the topic of notifications, it would be nice if the notification count would update with the active number of notifications on my phone. Say if I swiped out of the notifications on my phone, I'd want it to be removed on the glasses as well. Also, a "clear all" button would be super, super nice.
I would like to see a conversational AI with the ability to ask follow-up questions. I think that would open up many more possibilities on how it can be used.
